Today on our step-by-step Honeycomb dress and shirt sew along, we are going to attach our stand-up collar, one of the key features of the pattern! It is very easy to make and the result is very nice. You can stitch a buttonhole and button as well or leave it open. My versions are all missing that button as I preferred it
Collar
All versions
Pick up your two collar pieces and apply interfacing to one of them (this will be the outer collar). Now take the outer collar and pin it with right sides together to the neckline. The collar will extend 5/8’’/1.5cm at either side out of the neckline. Sew using the usual 3/8’’/1cm and trim the seam.
Take your other collar piece and pin it to the already stitched collar band, with right sides together along the outer curve / edge of the piece. Sew using a 5/8’’/1.5cm seam allowance this time. Start at the point closer to the button stand and finish at the other.
Turn the collar right side out and press. Now press the unfinished seam of the inner band under along the neckline seam, and pin or press to secure. Then slip stitch or stitch-in-the-ditch the collar in place. In my case I have topstitched it.
Now stitch a buttonhole on the right side of the collar band following the marking on the pattern and a button on the other side. This step is optional. I did not do it on my samples but you can if you want :)
You can also opt for snap buttons if you don't fancy buttonholes :)
And that's a wrap till tomorrow! We will tackle sleeves!
Happy sewing and see you soon!
