WEEK 2 - Sewing patchwork panels

Hi everyone! And welcome to Week 2 of the Patchwork Plum Dress sew-along :)

This time I will be sharing with you how to sew the panels for the patchwork pieces. Then, next week, we will be cutting all pattern pieces and I will show you how I finished all edges from all pattern pieces with an overlock stitch. Now, let's start!

PATCHWORK PANELS

I am going to use the front bodice as an example and how I stitched all pieces, overlocked the seams and topstitched them to keep them in place:

  • Place two of the fabric pieces that form the patchwork layout for the front bodice panel with right sides together. Pin and sew using a 3/8'' / 1cm seam allowance.

  • Press seams together and topstitch them in place from the right side.

  • Add the other block and repeat in the same way.

  • You will end up with a panel, bigger than your bodice, ready to be cut next week.

Repeat for all the pieces on your dress that have a patchwork layout. In my case it was just the skirt front and back. And that is it for week 2! I will see you again next Saturday, when we will be cutting all the pattern pieces and start sewing the dress!

PS. You can contact me at any time on Instagram or by email at hi@cocowawacrafts.com if you have any doubts :)

Thank you for following along and happy sewing!
