Meet the Kaleidoscope Quilt Pattern!

Get to know the new CocoWawa quilt pattern

Hi lovely makers!

I am here again to present a new quilting pattern, the Kaleidoscope Quilt, perfect for beginners wanting to learn basic block construction using the popular HSTs or Half-Square Triangles.

The pattern is sold as a PDF downloadable file and it offers FIVE! different quilt sizes and two different main blocks. The design presents endless colour and fabric combinations, which will make your quilt look different every time you make it.

Now, let's get into the details, shall we?

Sizes

There are five different sizes available for the Kaleidoscope Quilt:

  • Baby (36'' x 54’’)
  • Throw (54'' x 72’’)
  • Twin (72'' x 90’’)
  • Queen (90'' x 108’’)
  • King (108'' x 108'')

What can you learn making Kaleidoscope?

  • Then, you will learn how to sew HSTs or Half-Square Triangles which are one of the most used blocks in quilting. On the Kaleidoscope Quilt, they are part of two of the main blocks repeated several times, depending on the size, along the quilt.

  • You will also understand how to square-up a quilt block so that it has the desired finished measurements. And not only normal square blocks, but Half-Square Triangles. This can be used for any quilt or block you sew in the future.

Fabric requirements

For the quilt top, backing and bias binding, go for quilting cotton. For the batting or wadding, choose 100% cotton or a 80/20 cotton and poly blend.

You can find cutting layouts and fabric requirement charts on the instructions when you get the pattern.

The samples

I am starting with the sample that I also used as guideline for the instructions. All the fabrics for the quilt top and binding are Pure Solids from Art Gallery Fabrics, my favourite ever brand for solids, which I bought at Floyd the Fox, a great virtual store in Germany.

The backing is from the Sugar Cone Collection from Ruby Star Society, another favourite for prints, bought at  A Beautiful Thing, a lovely online fabric shop based in the UK. I finished up the quilt with a cute label from Sarah Hearts.

This is the Throw size and I sent it to a longarmer for quilting. I opted for a repeated pattern of soft waves 1'' apart from each other. I am so happy with the result!

The second version is another stunner if I say so myself! ;) I went for the super popular Starry Collection from Ruby Star for the quilt top and binding, in the new colours they launched at the end of last year. I bought them at A Beautiful Thing and I went for the baby size to be able to quilt it at home.

The backing is again from the Sugar Cone Collection from Ruby Star Society and I added another label from Sarah Hearts.

You can find the key cards for both samples on the blog as well as alternative layouts.

Now, are you ready to make your own Kaleidoscope Quilt? :)
