Add a cute ruffle to your pyjamas
Hi stitchers! I am back with a speedy guest post to show you a wonderful pair of Coconut Pjs made by amazing British maker Jen. Let's start!
About the pattern
Jen wanted to make a special pair of pyjamas for last Christmas, so she chose the Coconut Pjs.
This pattern is great for confident beginners wanting to up their sewing game. It comes with two trouser lengths as well as long and short sleeves. The ruffle around the collar is optional, so you can add it or leave it out.
Both the bottom of the legs and of the sleeves can be finished with an elastic to create a scrunchy cute effect or just with a regular hem.
Check below the two versions I made when I launched the pattern back in 2020.
Inspiration
Jen wanted to change the original pattern doing what is usually known in the sewing community as a hack and using as inspiration a pair of pyjamas from the popular British brand Rixo.
She opted for a gorgeous brushed cotton flannel from Art Gallery and bought at Bornella Fabrics.
Adding ruffles
Jen's addition to the pattern was a super cute extra ruffle at the bottom of the bodice, following Rixo's version. When I designed the pattern I thought there were enough optional ruffles, but there never are! The more, the better, right? ;) (remember that you can make the Pjs without any added ruffle).
Check her beautiful version and how nice that extra ruffle looks!
Apart from the scrunchy effect thanks to the added elasticated tunnel along the neckline, that you can find how to add in the Coconut instructions, Jen chose the version with long trousers and extra channel with elastic for the bottom of the legs (again, you can finish them with a normal hem instead).
And that is it for this post! You can find more maker hacks on the blog and all the CocoWawa patterns in the shop.
Happy sewing and hacking!
