I visited the Madrid Patchwork and Quilting Fair
This month of October has seen the celebration of the annual patchwork and quilting fair in Madrid, organised by the main Spanish patchwork association. A lovely event full of stands from shops and wholesalers as well as featuring a quilting exhibition.
I visited on a Thursday, the first day, and it was farely quiet. I had time and space to browse around the shops and I even managed to try two long arm quilting machines that I have been eyeing for a while now.
The main theme I sensed along the fair was of a love for the so-called "country style". I missed a bit of a different interpretation of quilting, with more colourful fabrics and modern designs. Nevertheless I had a great time talking to fellow quilters and business alike.
Take a look at everything I saw!
Here I am trying the Bernina Q16 (spoiler alert, I loved it!!).
This beautiful and intricate quilt was at the entrance of the fair.
There were many shops selling fat quarter fabrics with all sorts of prints.
It was my first time seeing this method of printing a pattern onto this special paper / material.
I can't resist a coloured coded thread stand. I wanted to take them all home with me!
This is Margit Siposné Cseh from Foltvilag, a Hungarian quilting company. She is basically a master of paper piecing. Look at all the intricate designs! She was making tiny hexagons and it was just amazing to watch.
These quilts were part of the exhibition. These travel all the Spanish geography for a year and are exhibited in different and smaller fairs and events.
I particularly liked this quilt. The colours are beautiful.
These quilts were made by a local quilter (and basically, an artist!). I was so impressed by the designs and the work involved. So impressive!
This is the other long arm machine I managed to try from Handi Quilter, their last release from I think 2021, Moxie.
And here I am posing with the angel wings :)
I hope you found this post interesting wether you are a quilter or not.
See you here again soon and thanks for reading!
Happy sewing and quilting,
Ana
