Honeycomb shirt and dress inspiration
So you like the Honeycomb Shirt and Dress sewing pattern quite a lot already but need a bit of inspiration? You’ve come to the right place! The new CocoWawa sewing pattern is perfect for both Spring and Summer and for cosy Autumn and Winter days depending on the fabric you go for. On this post you will find all sorts of alternatives to give you the inspiration you need to make yours and no matter whether you choose the dress or the shirt version; long sleeves with bows, short or sleeveless, you will find a lovely example here :)
And! instead of giving you inspiration from the high street, we have gathered some of the versions from the amazing team of CocoWawa testers! (send us an email to hi@cocowawacrafts.com if you want to become one next time) so that you get an idea of how all the versions look.
Ready? Let's start!
Version dress inspiration
Sleeveless Honeycomb dress made by lovely Emily, who lives in Cameroon. This version is perfect for long, hot Summer days. She told me that she reduced the armholes to make them smaller for her and used bias binding to finish them.
Sierra, who is an amazing sewist based in Atlanta, has made this incredible version in red linen. She has been one of our talented testers for the new size range. She went for size 7 and made no adjustments.
Laura has made a sleeveless dress version as well with this beautiful fabric I've had my eyes on for a while.
Another one with short sleeves and a sleeveless alternative made by awesome sewist Kharina, who has even made one for her daughter! who also sews.
Shirt Honeycomb with short sleeves by beautiful Chantelle who usually blogs at Sew Me Sunshine. She chose a rayon/viscose galaxy print (I need that fabric!).
And here it is her dress Honeycomb version with short sleeves. We can't get enough of this gorgeous yellow fabric!
Irene Morilla, our lovely Spanish tester, has made another short sleeve dress version of Honeycomb, using this amazing animal fabric. She went for snaps instead of regular buttons as she was not feeling quite confident stitching buttonholes (who does, though?!). We love the result and snaps are a great alternative!
Lovely Kathy, who blogs at Sew Dainty, went for a long sleeve dress Honeycomb with bows. This version would be perfect for Autumn and Winter, although here she has used a lighter fabric, making it a very nice addition to her handmade Spring wardrobe.
And we have another beautiful version of the dress with long sleeves and bows made by lovely Etemi who blogs at The Secret Costumier. I am so in love with this one! It looks perfect for Spring and Summer and look at those crochet trims she added to the bodice!
Another version in white / off-white (so pretty for Spring and Summer!) is the one made by lovely Cátia from The Petite Cat who has sewed this gorgeous dress swapping up the straps for some nice big bows.

Here lovely Becs has made a delicate and beautiful version of the Honeycomb shirt going for the regular long sleeves (no bows). And that fabric! We all love spots, right?
Amanda from has made another great shirt version for Spring with short sleeves in this lovely chambray that works great if you want to combine it with other garments.
Another lovely shirt version with long sleeves and bows is this one made by seamstress Laurène. A beautiful shirt perfect for Spring and the colder days of Autumn.
And last are lovely Amelia, who blogs at Sewing Machinations, and beautiful Anna, from Let's Get Sewing. Both opted for the shirt with short sleeves and left out the straps from the bodice which I think it is a great idea for those of you who don't fancy bows that much. Here you can see how the shirts look great without them as well.
Hope you felt inspired and ready to make your own Honeycomb Shirt or Dress! We can't wait to see all your versions :) And don't forget to share them on social media using the hashtags #cocowawapatterns, #honeycombdress, #honeycombshirt, #cwhoneycombdress, #cwhoneycombshirt.
Bye for now and... happy sewing!
