New Plum dress sewing pattern
The lovely Plum babydoll dress sewing pattern is a very wearable and comfortable dress with drop shoulders, inseam pockets (obviously!) and a relaxed fit.
The dress comes with two different skirt lengths, mini or midi, as well as 3/4 sleeves and cuffs or no sleeves with a cute ruffle detail, perfect for the Summer months. The back bodice features a button placket to be able to put the dress on and off easily, the skirt is gathered and the neckline is finished with biastape.
You will be able to make it in just a day, a very quick make, perfect for beginners and advanced beginners looking for an easy garment and also learning a few new tricks and a piece of cake for intermediate and advanced makers.
With lots of detailed instructions, technical drawings and tips to get the best results, the Plum babydoll sewing pattern will become a staple in your wardrobe the whole year. And! you can learn how to make it thanks to our YouTube tutorial.
The different versions of the pattern
Let's start with Version B of the Plum babydoll dress sewing pattern. This option offers a slightly shorter length than version A, lying a bit above the knee. Of course, you can mix and match all details and make the skirt as long or as short you wish.
The main detail of this Summery version are the ruffles that finish off the armholes as there are no sleeves on this option. You can also make it more simple by finishing the armholes with bias tape, for example, if you don't fancy the ruffle.
Both versions come with a back button placket to be able to put the dress on and off as well as inseam pockets. The fabric I used for this option is a lovely pink cotton silk with white details from Nani Iro and bought at The Draper's Daugther. It is such a beautiful and soft fabric, very drapey and just perfect for this project.
A DRESS TO WEAR ALL YEAR AROUND
Even though we have released Plum at the beginning of the Summer months, it is a design you can make and wear all year around, depending on the fabric you go for.
This version, option A, features 3/4 sleeves and cuffs and a longer length on the skirt. As you can see, it would be just perfect for Spring, Autumn and Winter, worn with tights and a jumper or a chunky cardigan.
Like version B, this option features a back button placket, pockets and the collar is also finished with bias tape, rather than a facing. The techniques and all the steps to make the dress can be found within the instructions' booklet and on our YouTube tutorial.
The fabric used in this version is a super soft double gauze from Atelier Brunette and bought at Sister Mintaka. I can't wait to wear this with tights next Autumn.
Apart from this, you can see how the design looks on different bodies thanks to our testers and also, remember to share your makes on social media using the hashtags #cocowawapatterns, #cwplumdress and #plumdress.
