Hey, hey guys! We are entering week 7 of the Great British Sewing Bee (the semi final already!!) and the next program, THE FINAL!!!, will be on Monday the 4th of July.
For those of you who don’t know the show, the Great British Sewing Bee is a TV sewing contest based on the same model as the Great British Bake Off. Maybe you’re familiar with that one? Every week contestants are given different sewing challenges and at the end of each episode one of them is sadly sent home until on the last episode, when the last three remaining contestants are left to battle for the winner’s crown.
And if you have read the title of the post I am sure you were wondering… Is that for real? Well, yes! Myself and Elena, the lovely owner at Sew It With Love are organizing an International Great British Sewing Bee Meetup for everyone following the show (wherever you might be in the world!) to share your inspired makes, thoughts and chat about sewing…
But it doesn’t end here! For those of you who live in or around London we will be hosting a weekly meetup in a South London pub where we would have a chance to watch the show together and chat about all things sewing afterwards. Exciting much? Well… This isn’t all so listen up! Each week we will be sharing the event on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and each week we will be having a giveaway that can be entered by sharing the event’s post on one or more of these platforms and posting any work in progress or finished sewing project that includes something related to the show which we will pick each week (e.g a particular finish, fabric or technique etc..). Wanna play and stand in for a chance to win some fantastic prizes including Ernest Wright & Son scissors, sewing store vouchers from Weaver Dee and Jaycotts, Colette patterns from Fabric Godmother, a £45 voucher to use towards any of the amazing sewing classes with the lovely Elena at Sew It With Love, a lovely fabric bundle worth £40 with Coco Wawa, a copy of The Secrets of Sewing Lingerie by Katherine Sheers and Laura Stanford, a £50 voucher from Sew Essential, 3 copies of Leigh Metcalf’s book “London Stitch and Knit: A craft lover’s guide to London’s fabric, knitting and haberdashery shops“, two 2.5 metres lengths of Liberty fabric of your choice from Abakhan, and an amazing £250 fabric bundle from Minerva Crafts?!!! (yup, this is for real 🙂 ).
AND…there are even more great news! We are so thrilled to have Quadrille publishers on board too! Each week for the duration of the show, they will kindly send out a copy of the brand new GBSB book From Stitch to Style to one lucky person attending the London meet up!!! But don’t forget you must follow us and the sponsor (@quadrillecrafts) either on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, share the event and post images by tagging us and using the event’s giveaway and hashtags in order to qualify just as outlined below. Also the lovely people behind Sew Magazine will give out some free copies so that participants can take away home with them 🙂 That’s even more reasons to come and watch the show with us, right?
And now for the rules! 🙂

The day after, a Tuesday, we will announce the winner!
Now, for those of you who would like to join us for the last live screening you would be able to reserve a spot for a bargain price of £2 (payable in advance) to help us cover the venue hire fee. We have found a lovely room in a beautiful South London pub where we will all watch the show together, chat all things sewing and make new sewing friends 🙂 Starting from today (28th of June), you will be able to book your place for Monday the 4th (the final!!) up until 9pm on Sunday 3th (24 hours before the program starts). The venue has a capacity of 28 people, so get in early if you want to secure your spot!
So how do I join the party? Places can be booked through Doodle (click on the name to go to the page and book your place). Don’t forget to write your name AND email address on the same box, so that we can send you a Paypal invoice! (and don’t worry, you don’t need to have an account). You’ve got time to pay till 24 hours before the event to secure your place (in this case till Sunday the 3th at 9.00pm). If you fail to make the payment, that place will go to another person. If a vacant becomes available, we will let you know via social media.
The place? The Sun of Camberwell, a lovely pub and restaurant in 61-63 Coldharbour Ln, London SE5 9NS. You can order food or have a drink while there. Check out their lovely menu here.
How to get there? The pub is easily reached by a 10 minute walk from Denmark Hill overground station, or by various buses to Camberwell Green and a 5 minute walk from there; a 12-15 min walk from Loughborough Junction station, or less than a 10 minute bus ride from either Oval (18, 36) or Brixton stations (35, 345). Here’s a link to the Transport for London site to plan your journey in advance 🙂
