Kaleidoscope Quilt - PDF sewing pattern

The versatile Kaleidoscope Quilt comes in five different sizes: Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen and King. The pattern offers infinite colour combinations that will transform the main block and the look of the finished quilt every time you make it.

Each quilt size is made out of two different main blocks measuring 18''x18'' each when sewn together. Within each block, there are 9 units measuring 6'' x 6'' each when stitched together.

The Kaleidoscope Quilt pattern is aimed at beginners. Intermediate and Advanced quilters will have fun playing with endless colour combinations.

For the quilt top, backing and bias binding: quilting cotton.

For the batting: 100% cotton or a 80/20 cotton and polyester blend.

All fabric requirements assume a width of fabric of 42’’. For the backing, you can also use an extra wide fabric of 108''. The amount needed for this wider backing has been added in italics and in parenthesis next to the amount for the 42'' width.

The fabrics and colours used on the samples are for reference only and they are all Pure Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics (find the key card on the blog.). You can adjust to your own taste.

The amount of batting needed depends on whether you are buying pre-packed batting or if you are buying it in yards. Remember that the batting needs to be at least 2'' bigger on all sides than the quilt top and that the backing should be 4'' bigger than the batting on all sides as well.

• Sewing machine.
• Regular thread for piecing the quilt top and to sew the bias binding tape by hand at the end.
• 1/4’’ quilting foot is recommended for accuracy. Also a walking foot for the quilting part.
• Rotary cutter and cutting mat.
• 6-strand embroidery floss or pearl cotton optional if hand quilting.
• Others: masking / painters’ tape, fabric pen, scissors, pins and quilting safety pins (curved), clips, needle, quilting ruler...

There are five different sizes available: Baby (36'' x 54’’), Throw (54'' x 72’’), Twin (72'' x 90’’), Queen (90'' x 108’’) and King (108'' x 108'').
